Somatic Psychotherapy for Men
As men, we do not always know how to articulate what is happening in our bodies and what we are feeling. Society supports and rewards us as thinkers and evaluators, but often it can feel like something is missing from our lives. Furthermore, men learn that to be in control, strong and independent is how to be a man, yet this only teaches men to be brittle and rigid, unequipped to face a life that is fluid and ever changing.
Like a mentor or a guide, psychotherapy can be an essential part of your growth process, having another man as witness to talk out your issues or help to bring some clarity to areas of your life that you feel challenged. Recognizing your feelings and taking responsibility for your choices in life I consider to be the path of the courageous, the hero’s journey.
In sessions, I work slowly and with respect, while speaking honestly to help guide you to a deeper understanding of your life and your relationships. In therapy, curiosity plays a big role in how I work, to help you to understand the choices in your life and perhaps learn new ones. Grounded in both Eastern and Western approaches in therapy, my therapeutic work is based on mindfulness and emotional safety, about focusing on body awareness and creating a place to feel open to explore the man you are and the man you want to be.
