Somatic Psychotherapy

Finding Your Way - A Map of Somatic Psychotherapy

I see psychotherapy as a journey into parts of ourselves that are unknown - often when we are in foreign terrain it helps to have a skilled guide to point the way on the path and help to steer clear of the pitfalls, or to support you when you're wounded.

Hiking can be analogous to psychotherapy in that we must be willing to be present with the pain in our bodies to experience the peace and beauty surrounding us in life. We will work together as a team, discovering and welcoming all of the parts of your self with an eye toward experiencing your aliveness and vitality.

Getting Your Bearings

In Somatic Psychotherapy, we pay close attention how your body participates in your emotions and memories. Through various embodiment practices, we will work together to help you feel more at home in your body, attending to your emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being while honoring how these aspects can influence our lives, both positively and negatively.

Psychotherapy is about relationships, and in some cases it is about learning how to do relationships, including communication, eye contact, and staying present while in connection. Through mindfulness, or body awareness, I teach tracking skills, to help you become adept at noticing the ebb and flow of your moment-to-moment experience. My goal is to bring you toward wholeness, helping you to recognize your own resources for healing. These resources then become the foundation with which we can build a somatic system that supports your identity as a man.
